SAG Awards: Favorites

Here are my favorite dresses from the SAG Awards:

(I especially love her pink hand bag!)

Pencil Shavings Outfit

I made this outfit one day, purely stream of conscious. I like to take random 3D things and make an outfit out of them! Let me just tell you, it was pretty hard getting the pencil shavings to stay!

Rainbows in Fashion

Endora is wearing a fashionable-rainbow dress- in this episode of bewitched. Notice her earrings, bells? And her necklace, pearls? No, maybe not, just metal balls. And her eyeshadow-hey, who can't say that's not in style? Well, anyone can. But I think it's nice, in a costume-y sort of way. I think it would be a hit on any fashion runway today- to convey a more dramatic message. I like the stripes on her dress too. I like big stripes, small stripes are good too, but, well. I just like big stripes, for now. Her dress goes out at the bottom, reminding me of an upside down balloon. I like it, not only does it look nice, but it drapes beautifully. Peachie!

Bewitched or Beautiful?

Isn't Samantha's, from Bewitched, makeup pretty? I like the plain but refined tone. Her lips and mascara (if she is wearing any) are perfectly applied. It's so plain yet so beautiful.
This dress is just peachie! I love the jewelry this actress wore on Bewitched that goes perfectly well with the dress. Is that jewelry or cuffs along the dress? Anyway, I just love it. Sequins!

I absolutely love these buttons on this dress that Serena is wearing in Bewitched. I love lace, so this dress is amazing to me. Buttons are always the way to go, I like zippers, but come on. Buttons are really beautiful on dresses- especially down the back. There just so charming!

Coconut & Caramel Delights

I made these coconut and caramel cookies the other day with my friend. They were fantastic. The recipe is in Martha Stewart Living 2012 February. We couldn't stop eating them by the time they were done.

Coconut Thumbprint Cookies with Salted Caramel

Makes: 54

Ingredients:

3 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
12 ounces sweetened flaked coconut
44 small soft caramel candies (12 ounces)
6 tablespoons heavy cream
large flaky sea salt
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat together butter and sugar with a mixer on medium speed until pale and fluffy, then beat in vanilla. With mixer on low, gradually add in flour and 1/2 teaspoon table sea salt, and beat to combine. Press dough together in plastic wrap, then roll into 1 1/4 inch balls.(Why so precise? Nobody's going to take the time to measure the dough!) Dip each ball in beaten egg, and roll in coconut. (We found it easier just to make the balls and then dip them into the egg and coconut, assembly-line style.) Place balls on parchment-lined baking sheets, and press an indentation into each with your thumb. Bake for 10 minutes, them remove sheets from oven, and re-press indentations. (Watch out, they might be hot!)
2. Place caramels and heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until the caramels are melted and the mixture is smooth, 4-6 minutes. Spoon into indentations in cookies, and sprinkle with sea salt. (A lot is better!) Rewarm caramel if it hardens before all cookies are filled. (We had to reheat the caramel many times for it to be warm when we poured it onto the treats!)

These are just peachie and I would recommend them for any occasion! Enjoy!

Best White Frosting

This is a great frosting recipe that my friend makes all the time. The combination of the ingredients is so good and great for any flavor of cupcakes. These are some rough amounts, so if it seems too sweet- add some cream cheese. If it's not sweet enough- add some white chocolate, sugar, and marshmallow fluff. Or any flavor that you want more of for your frosting, just add it!

You'll need:

1 package of cream cheese
One half cup of powdered sugar
A few big scoops of marshmallow fluff
One bar of melted white chocolate
One cap full of vanilla extract

Melt the chocolate and then mix all the ingredients. Yummy! Top any kind of cupcake and enjoy!

Miniature Moment

I made this one day, well actually over a couple days. I thought it would turn out strange, but it actually went quite well! The bowling pins with hair in the background were definitely my favorite touch. Or maybe the guy sitting on the wall... I don't know, I just love all of it!

Best Sugar Cookie Recipe

This is a great sugar cookie recipe, me and my friends use it all the time. The recipe is super short, but makes the best cookies. The kind that are just the right amount of chewy on the inside. Use the exact ingredients, I've tried it with whole wheat flour. It's just not the same. Sometimes I put in a little more vanilla just to give it good flavor. This recipe yields four dozen. This recipe is from allrecipes.com.
The link for this recipe on allrecipes.com is: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/easy-sugar-cookies/

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.

Yummy! (P.S. if you sprinkle sugar on the top, don't over do it. It ruins the whole batch.)

Skirt or shirt? You decide.

I recently spotted this skirt in my closet, where did I get it? I realized it could be worn as a skirt or a shirt. It's good with jeans for a shirt and a tank top underneath. It's not good with tights underneath for a skirt though. That's the good thing about shopping your own closet, you never know what you'll find! Also, it's good to buy things that can double as something else.
That way when you get tired of it, which we all do, you can wear it as something else. Not only is it economical in that way, but it is fun to rearrange your outfit using your most loved pieces.

Candy Wrapper Bag

I love this bag! Although I've never actually brought it outside, I'm planning to now that I remembered I have it. I got it in the Union Square Market for the holidays. It was pretty pricey but I got it as a gift and I will totally use it now. The inside is candy wrapper also and there is a pouch that I think is a plastic mesh. It's pretty cute. I especially love the handles which blend in so well with the other pink colored candy wrappers. It's great for carrying anything around because of it's size. One could definitely fit a book, a sweater, makeup, an umbrella, a scarf, the list is endless because it's so big, yet so fashionable. But probably won't be bringing to a fancy party because of the candy wrappers. (Who ate those before they got on my bag?) I wonder how they got those all intertwined, fabulous! I'd guess a lot of candy wrappers would have to be eaten to make just this one bag. It's one of a kind and I love it!

Too long or not too long?

Too Long or not too long? That is the question. Are long skirts really too long? No way. Think hippie, bohemian? Okay, well, they're in style. Before you know they’ll be everywhere, maxi skirts? Totally.
Bright colors on maxi skirts, just say no. Seriously.
Take a look. Darker colors are better, stick to brown,
dark blue, and maroon.
Long skirts + wedges = danger. No joke. You’ll be tripping over the edges of your skirt. Long skirts + flats/sandals = better.
Now I don’t care if the picture above has wedges, I STILL THINK ITS DANGEROUS. Only wear wedges and maxi skirts when the maxi skirt isn’t below your ankle. Most maxi skirts will be though, so as I said, stick with flats. I’m sure they made maxi skirts and dresses for people (hippies) to wear barefooted. But I don’t know.
If you're going modern bohemian, you’ll need bangles, and sandals. And jewelry. I’m pretty sure you need all kinds of jewelry. Modern Bohemian is sure to be in style. Long skirts, flowey pants, jewelry, and lace. You have just got to love lace tops, but that’s another discussion. With long skirts you should wear blouses, not t-shirts, although crop-tops work too, blouses that are white. Other colors are kind of hard to mix and match. The good thing is, with white blouses you can mix and match and they go with anything. On American Apparel, they have lots of nice tops. Sometimes buttons down the middle isn’t the way to go. Maxi skirts have patterns as you can see, flowers, stripes, squigly things. Everything. Personally I like the flowers because they're just peachie. I’ve been trying to get my friends to wear long skirts forever but of course they won’t. I DO wear them though, they’re in style. Only in summer, trust me, in winter I’ve tried with stockings. Does not work. Seriously. Even with boots its hard to pull it off. Just stick to summer, now is the best time to be hunting up the right skirt for you and getting your outfit ready for summer. Trust me. You won’t regret it.

Finding Treaures Where You'd Least Expect Them

I found this great ring today,at a cool vintage store that I've never been in to in my life. It's called Jillery, 88 East 10th St. I've always wanted to go in, but I guess I just never had the courage, so I went in with a friend and we had a great time. This ring caught my eye and I just had to buy it. Only $12, what a bargain! I could seriously wear it anywhere, it is that stylish. I love the little paint streaks that all blend well together. Not sure if it's completely vintage because I'm sure I saw the same one for $4 extra a couple shelves away. The little jewels at the top make it so that I can wear it to any fancy occasion. That's why I love shopping vintage, you will never know where it can take you. And who doesn't want a ring with a colorful peacock on it?
